The Ministry of General Education says transparency has been observed in the selection of teachers at the on-going teachers recruitment exercise despite the absence of union leaders.
Ministry of General Education Spokesperson, Hillary Chipango confirmed this to Breeze News.
Mr. Chipango was responding to a complaint by ZNUT, Zambia National Union of Teachers Eastern Province Chairperson, Alakwisa Phiri that year’s recruitment of teachers has been marred with corruption because union leaders have not been involved in the exercise.
Mr. Chipango says officers from TIZ, Transparency International Zambia have been involved in the recruitment of teachers to ensure that there is no corruption in the exercise.
He however, could not state why the Ministry of General Education decided not to involve the Union leaders in the recruitment of teachers stating that union leaders should consult their National Secretary.
Mr. Chipango added that only people, who meet the required qualifications, will be deployed as teachers in various provinces.
The Ministry of General Education is this year expected to deploy five thousand new teachers to various schools countrywide.
