The Ministry of Health says it is aware of poor altitude towards work by some health workers.
Provincial Medical Officer, Dr. Kennedy Malama says his office has received reports of workers spending more time talking on phone instead of attending to patients.
Dr. Malama however, says that the Ministry of Health will not tolerate such behaviour stating the disciplinary action will be taken against such workers.
Dr. Malama was speaking during a live radio programme dubbed “Budget Tracking”, which is addressing the findings of CSPR, Civil Society for Poverty Reduction.
And Dr. Malama clarified that health workers in clinics are supposed to break off for lunch but ensure that they report for work on time.
He however, says that normal operational hours for clinics are being affected by shortage of staff.
And speaking during the same programme, CSPR Provincial Coordinator, Maxwell Nkhoma described budget tracking as an important process because it promotes transparency.
The programme received a number of callers who complained about poor attitude towards work by most workers.
