The Patriotic Front Party appeals against Dr. John Phiri’s failed nomination in Lundazi.

The Patriotic Front PF Party has appealed to the Constitutional Court over ECZ, Electoral Commission of Zambia’s decision to reject Dr. John Phiri’s nomination papers for Lundazi parliamentary seat yesterday.

Provincial Chairperson, Andrew Lubusha has confirmed stating that the ruling party suspects foul play and malice in the way the matter was handled by ECZ officers.

Mr. Lubusha says that the PF is surprised that Lundazi District Electoral Officer, Boyd Kaoma was actively involved in all nominations in the district instead of leaving the matter to returning officers.

He says that Dr. Phiri arrived at the nomination centre early but was advised to go back and get back later between 15 and 16 hours so that he should not waste time waiting.

Mr. Lubusha however, says that the party is shocked that the issue changed when Dr. Phiri went back and was told that he was late.

The PF provincial chairperson says that this was strange because some candidates in other constituencies like Lumezi, Kasenengwa and Luangeni filed in their nominations passed 18 hours.

Lundazi District Electoral Officer, Boyd Kaoma yesterday said that he could not go against the law by allowing Dr. Phiri to file in his nomination papers late.

Five candidates will contest the Vubwi parliamentary seat on August 11.
