The Patriotic Front PF Party in Eastern Province has urged cotton and tobacco buying companies to desist from exploiting farmers with poor buying prices.
PF Provincial Chairperson, Attany Mwamba says that the PF manifesto aims at improving the welfare of all Zambians and anything to the contrary will not be tolerated.
And Mr. Mwamba has cautioned opposition political parties taking part in the Petauke Central and Malambo parliamentary by-elections on June 30 against politicising crop buying prices.
Mr. Mwamba says that it is clear that government cannot interfere with crop buying prices which merchants are offering because Zambia has a liberalised economy.
He has charged that it is unfortunate that UPND has gone flat out misleading innocent farmers in Malambo and Petauke Central constituencies blaming government for the low tobacco and cotton prices.
In a statement availed to Breeze News, Mr. Mwamba has taken a swipe at UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema whom he has accused of lacking understanding in policy matters.
He says that farmers should understand that the PF campaigned on a pro-poor policy, which it continues to uphold and will not be derailed.
Mr. Mwamba has advised the opposition political parties to play their role of helping government to deliver quality services to Zambians by providing constructive criticism.
He has also assured farmers that government will not allow dealers in the farming sector to exploit them, because agriculture has the potential to further improve Zambia’s economy.
