The Prisons Service says that congestion has reduced in prisons in Eastern Province.
Deputy Regional Commanding Officer, Senior Superintendent, Moses Tembo also says that all the inmates are in good health and have enough food.
He was speaking when he presented a report on the condition of the prisons, during official opening of the Chipata High this morning.
And the Deputy Regional Commanding Officer says that the province has recorded a total of 1,648 inmates this morning.
Superintendent Tembo says that Chipata has recorded the highest number of inmates, which is 750, followed by Petauke with 298 and Nyimba is third with 215 inmates.
He says that Katete is fourth with 202 inmates while Lundazi is least with 178.
