The process of choosing Junior Mayors for Chipata district starts.

The process of choosing a Junior Mayor and Deputy Junior Mayor for Chipata district has started.

The process started by pupils from twelve secondary schools in Chipata participating in a youth dialogue on governance and developmental issues debate competition yesterday.

Eight pupils have been selected to take part in the final youth dialogue on governance and developmental issues debate competition next week.

Chipata Municipal Council Director of Housing and Social Services, Judith Maambo explained to Breeze News that this is in an effort to get youths to participate in local governance issues.

Mrs. Maambo says judges will come up with two winners who will be declared Junior Mayor and Deputy Junior Mayor for the district at the final competition.

And speaking earlier at the debate competition, Kanjala Ward Councillor, William Phiri says all pupils from the twelve selected schools are members of the Junior Youth Council Project and will be representing other young people in the council programs.

Mr. Phiri says the Junior Youth Council Project is focused on bridging the gap between the old and young generation because youths are experts on matters that concern and affect them.
