The United Party for National Development UPND has accused MMD, Movement for Multi-Party Democracy of breaching the agreement on by-elections.
Provincial UPND Deputy Information and Publicity Secretary, Steven Munene says MMD and UPND agreed that MMD should not contest in constituencies where UPND is strong while UPND should also do the same in constituencies where MMD is strong.
Mr. Munene however, says that UPND is surprised that MMD wants to contest Malambo and Mulobezi by-elections despite UPND being strong in these two areas.
But MMD Provincial Secretary, Samuel Lugomo Phiri says that his party in Eastern Province is not aware of such an agreement.
Mr. Phiri wondered how UPND can claim to be strong in Malambo Constituency because former MP, Maxwell Mwale who wants to re-contest the seat on UPND ticket used to belong to the former ruling party.
The UPND and MMD disagree on which party to contest the Malambo parliamentary by-election.
