The UPND has described the Mulobezi by-election as a scandal but accepted defeat in Eastern Province.

The UPND has described the Mulobezi parliamentary by-election as a scandal.
And the opposition political party says it has made gains in Eastern Province despite losing the Malambo and Petauke Central parliamentary by-elections.
Speaking to Breeze News, UPND Vice President, Canisius Banda says that the Mulobezi election was a scandal because blood was shed during campaigns which is not supposed to be the case.
Dr. Banda says that the violence witnessed in the by-election was a sign of a failed democracy because people should not fight because of difference of opinion.
Patriotic Front PF’s Patricia Mulasikwanda polled 3,337 votes to beat Hastings Sillilo for UPND, who polled 3,313 votes in a tightly contested race.
And the UPND vice president says that from the total votes cast in the two by-elections in Eastern Province, UPND had registered about 30 per cent of the votes.
He says that this was a clear sign that the opposition political party is making headways in establishing its presence in the region.
