The Veterinary Department has complained of facing challenges to control illegal importation of poultry products and milk from neighbouring Malawi.
Provincial veterinary officer, Arthur Mumbolomena attributed this to the porous nurture of the border between Zambia and Malawi.
Dr. Mumbolomena has urged people dealing in poultry products and importing milk from other countries, to follow procedure.
He explained that importing products without following procedure and regulations can easily bring diseases from other countries.
Dr. Mumbolomena further says that poultry products need to be certified to be safe for consumption, as some chemicals that are used in feeding chickens may not be safe.
He therefore, called on people to be reporting those who import poultry products and milk without following proper procedures.
