The Zambia Police in Eastern Province last year took to court over one thousand two hundred cases.
Provincial Police Commissioner, Grace Chipalila says that a total of 1,223 cases were taken to court, while the police also recorded 1,075 traffic accidents.
Speaking at the Eastern Division Annual Ball held in Chipata last evening, Ms. Chipalila explained that from the 1,223 cases, 387 involved gender based violence.
And the provincial police commissioner reiterated that the Zambia Police will remain loyal to government and that it does not have room for partisan politics within its ranks.
She reminded senior police officers that they have a duty to instil discipline in their subordinates and ensure that corruption in the various sections they supervise is eliminated completely.
And speaking during the same occasion, Eastern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Zacharia Luhanga said that government is aware of the numerous challenges being faced by the police service in Eastern Province.
Mr. Luhanga said that inadequate housing, lack of transport and equipment was among the major challenges affecting the Zambia Police.
He however, urged the police to be very understanding as well as responsive to the needs of the community.
