Government has instructed TBZ, the Tobacco Board of Zambia to buy all the produce from independent tobacco growers.
TBZ Chief Executive Officer, Samson Muyembe has confirmed the development to Breeze Business News.
Mr. Muyembe says that government has also provided the money, which TBZ will use to buy the close to 1,200 metric tonnes of tobacco from farmers in Eastern and Southern Provinces.
He explained that Eastern Province has about 480 metric tonnes of tobacco, which has not yet been bought from the independent growers.
Mr. Muyembe says that TBZ will start buying the cash crop starting on Monday next week, using the Chipata Main Floor.
He says that TBZ will sell the tobacco, which it will buy from the independent growers later, when it finds market.
Mr. Muyembe also indicated that the tobacco marketing exercise, which was extended by 30 days, will close on October 31.
