Tobacco farmers who sold their crop to Zambia Leaf Tobacco Company in Lundazi district complain of irregularities in payments.

Tobacco farmers who sold their crop to Zambia Leaf Tobacco Company in Lundazi district have complained of irregularities in payments.
The farmers, who did not want to be mentioned, complained that the company is underpaying them compared to the tobacco supplied.
They explained that the money, which the company is paying farmers, does not tally with the Purchase Crop Numbers.
The farmers, who expressed disappointment, also accused the company of using wrong tobacco grades when buying the tobacco.
And Zambia Leaf Tobacco Company manager, Kamona Lukonga denied the allegations by the farmers.
Mr. Lukonga explained that the farmers did not simply understand that some deductions such as for transport, handling cost and the 3 per cent for TBZ, the Tobacco Board of Zambia had to be done.
He says that his company has now produced a new price list, tabulating already deducted prices to avoid misunderstanding from the farmers.
