Construction works of the 10 kilometres stretch of urban roads in Lundazi district have stalled.
Lundazi District Council Secretary Boyd Kaoma confirmed the development to Breeze News in Lundazi.
Mr. Kaoma stated that the works of upgrading of roads to bituminous standard in the township have grounded to a halt due to lack of funds.
Mr. Kaoma further stated that Avex Construction Company has temporarily stopped the works because of government’s failure to release the funds on time.
He stated that government has so far managed to pay 10 million Kwacha for the works already done by the contractor out of about 55 million Kwacha total contract sum.
He further revealed that the constructor has already done clearing and grabbing of the whole 10 kilometres stretch, gravelling of 4 kilometres and subgrade formation of 2 kilometres since the works started in March last year.
Mr. Kaoma stated that the constructor would fail to meet the deadline if erratic funding continues.
