Traditional leaders in Katete’s Mkaika area have been advised to stay away from active politics.
Caritas-Chipata good governance programmes coordinator John Mthaziko Zulu says the chiefs should refrain from involving themselves in political campaigns because the trend could bring disunity.
And Mr. Zulu has pleaded with political parties participating in Mkaika parliamentary by-election to conduct peaceful campaigns.
Meanwhile some parliamentary candidates aspiring for Mkaika Constituency by-election have pledged to conduct peaceful and issue based campaigns ahead of the September 5th poll.
Patriotic Front PF candidate David Phiri says he will not tolerate any violence in his campaign.
Mr Phiri who is former MMD Mkaika Member of Parliament has urged the people to vote for him so that he can facilitate development in the area.
And UNIP, United National Independence Party candidate, Nelson Mwale also says that he will conduct peaceful campaigns.
Mr. Mwale says that construction of dams will be his priority if elected to represent people of Mkaika in parliament.
