Twenty-one Malawians have been arrested in Silot area in Chipata with 18 having been charged for illegal entry and stay in the country.
Immigration Department Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshika has confirmed to Breeze News.
He says that three others, who have been accused of initiating children into Witchcraft, have not yet been interviewed to find out if their stay in Chipata is legal.
Mr. Nshika says the 18 Malawians are currently in detention awaiting prosecution.
He also says that the other three are appearing in a traditional court in the area and the department will follow the normal procedure of interviewing them immediately after the court’s judgement next week so that action is taken.
Mr. Nshika says Immigration officers are working closely with Dilika Ward councillor, Samuel Phiri to address the problem of illegal immigrants staying in his ward, which is closer to Mwami Border.
