Two brothers nabbed in Lundazi for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants

The Drug Enforcement Commission DEC has arrested two brothers in Lundazi District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants.

Aaron Mucheleka 45 and his brother Alison, both are from Zoi Village.

A statement from DEC says that Aaron was arrested for cultivating cannabis plants weighing 835 kilograms and trafficking in 18 kilograms of loose cannabis, while his brother Alison was arrested for unlawful cultivation of cannabis weighing 45 kilograms.

Meanwhile, Aston Phiri, 38, a truck driver of Kalunguzha Village in Petauke district has been convicted and sentenced to five years in prison with hard labour for drug trafficking.

In the first count, Phiri was sentenced to five years for trafficking in over 350 kilograms of cannabis, while in the second count, he was sentenced to two years for unlawful use of property.

The sentences will run consecutively with effect from April 15th 2016.

And the commission has arrested over 80 people countrywide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.
