Two leading aspirants for a Patriotic Front candidate in the Petauke Central parliamentary by-election have pulled out.

Interviews for a PF, Patriotic Front candidate in the Petauke Central parliamentary by-election have taken a new twist with two leading aspirants withdrawing from the race.

Breeze FM Correspondent, Mercy Maseko reports that prominent businessman Elias Daka who got the highest votes and William Banda who came second during constituency elections have pulled out without giving reasons.

This means that only former Petauke Central Member of Parliament, Dora Siliya and Charles Nyanoka are the remaining in the race for the PF candidate.

Mr. Daka had polled 11 votes, followed by William Banda who got 10 votes while Ms. Siliya was in the third place with 5 votes.

District elections for the PF candidate are currently underway in Petauke.

The provincial and national leaderships will be expected to make a final decision on the candidate to represent the ruling party.

Electoral Commission of Zambia ECZ early this week announced that the Petauke Central, Malambo and Mulobezi parliamentary by-elections will take place on June 30.
