Two Malawians accused of obtaining money by false pretences amounting to over fifty thousand Kwacha have denied the charge.
In their defence before Chipata Magistrate Mercy Chabu, Byson Phiri 33 a farmer from Kasungu and Madalitso Mbewe 29 a businessman from Mchinji denied ever obtaining money from five Zambians on pretext that they could bring their dead relatives to life.
The two said that they came to Zambia with a person only known as Dr Major to collect their credit as he had assured them of getting their money because he was a witchdoctor working from Chipata at Mr Pennias Daka’s farm.
They said that Dr Major was the witchdoctor who was collecting money from people on the pretext of raising people from the dead and that he was not around during the time they were arrested as he told them that he had gone for a funeral.
The duo also denied working together with Dr Major as his assistants adding that they never committed the offence.
The two are charged with 5 counts of obtaining money by false
pretences and were found with a case to answer earlier by
Magistrate Chabu has set May 31st 2016 as date for judgement while the accused will be remanded in custody.
