Two cadres from MMD, Movement for Multi-Party Democracy in Katete district have been hospitalized after being beaten up by suspected PF, Patriotic Front Party cadres.
Breeze FM Staffer, Gift Phiri reports from Katete that Michael Phiri and Jeremiah Njobvu are nursing wounds in the St. Francis Mission Hospital after being clobbered on Wednesday evening around 22 hours.
And speaking from his hospital bed, Michael Phiri, who is the elder brother to PF candidate in the Mkaika parliamentary by-election, accused David Phiri, his younger brother, of being behind the attack.
Mr. Phiri explained that he was on his way to St. Francis Mission Hospital last evening taking his colleague when he found two vehicles that had closed the road.
He says that about 10 suspected PF cadres then started chasing them and managed to catch them as they tried to climb the hospital fence and started beating them severely before taking them to Mr. Phiri’s home.
But Mr. Phiri has denied any wrongdoing, stating that the PF cadres had informed him that they found the MMD cadres distributing money to voters and were also found with a list of registered voters.
He says that he advised the PF cadres to take his elder brother and Mr. Njobvu to police if they had done anything wrong.
And when contacted for comment, Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Grace Chipalila said that she had not yet received a report on the incident.
