Two people have died on the spot in a road traffic accident along the Great East Road in Petauke district.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Grace Chipalila confirmed the accident, which happened at about 12:10 hours about 12 kilometres east of Petauke district.
Ms. Chipalila told Breeze News that the accident happened when a Nissan Hardbody belonging to Chicken Hybrid Suppliers of Lusaka, driven by Paul Phiri, rammed into a stationary truck from Malawi, driven by Kabulanda Karaba of Mzuzu district.
She explained that Mr. Phiri and one of the passengers in the vehicle, Geoffrey Banda died on the spot while another passenger, Lewis Mwale survived.
Meanwhile Ms. Chipalila says that an attempt by pupils at Msoro Secondary School to protest early this week was foiled by school authorities.
She says that details on the reasons for the protest were not immediately made available to the police.
