The Lundazi Magistrate has convicted two private persons for corruption involving 1, 500 Kwacha and sentenced them to six months imprisonment.
This is contained in a press statement made available to Breeze News by ACC Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono.
Mr Moono explains that this is in a matter in which two Lundazi residents, Hemusi Ng’oma and Eston Ng’oma, were arrested by ACC for offering a bribe amounting to 1, 500 Kwacha to a Senior Investigations Officer of DEC, the Drug Enforcement Agency.
The money was an inducement for the officer to facilitate the squashing of a case in which their relative Urgent Tembo was arrested for drug trafficking offences.
He says the duo was arrested by the Commission in Chipata on 19th October, 2012 and charged for the offence of corrupt practices by, or with, a public officer contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Mr. Moono says Justice Keagan Litiya of Lundazi Subordinate Courts convicted the duo and sentenced them to six months simple imprisonment with effect from 24th January 2014.
