UNIP suspends three senior officials in Eastern Province

Three senior officials belonging to UNIP, the United National Independence Party have been suspended with immediate effect.
UNIP Provincial Chairperson, Donald Sakala says Provincial Trustee, Pearson Mtonga, Chipata District vice chairperson, James Mwale and his district party secretary, Mathews Tembo have all been suspended indefinitely.
Mr. Sakala told Breeze News that the trio have been suspended for gross indiscipline, betrayal, disrespecting leaders and not following party procedures.
He says that the three officials will remain suspended until further notice.
Meanwhile the MMD in Mambwe district has dismissed reports that about 60 of their members have left to join the ruling PF, Patriotic Front Party.
Mambwe District Chairperson, Zephaniah Kaleya says that the defections are stage managed, and meant to mislead people.
Mr. Kaleya also denied reports that the MMD is misleading voters in Kakumbi Ward by alleging that PF and MMD are fielding one candidate, Maison Phiri, who is from the former governing party.
