UPND reject constitutional court ruling

The United Party for National Development UPND has rejected the court ruling in the presidential petition.

UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka says in a statement availed to Breeze News that his party has rejected the ruling because it was passed on an application from the respondents without allowing UPND to respond.

Mr. Katuka has questioned why the court told the UPND to prepare for a hearing and then deliver a judgment.

He further says that the court was inconsistent and failed to live up to their earlier decisions and continued changing positions almost in each sitting.

Mr. Katuka has called on UPND members across the country to remain strong as the party leadership confer with their legal team on the next step to be taken.

He says that UPND wishes to put it on record that it has not lost an election or the petition which was before the constitutional court.

The Constitutional Court yesterday dismissed the petition paving the way for inauguration of President Elect Edgar Lungu and his vice president Inonge Wina on Tuesday next week.
