User school fee limits not clear

The Ministry of Education in Eastern Province says it is yet to receive guidance if the school fee limits set by government are with immediate effect.
Speaking in a telephone interview with Breeze News from Lusaka, PEO, Provincial Education Officer, Allan Lingambe says that Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Chishimba Nkosha will give guidance before schools open on Monday.
Government has limited user fees for boarding schools to not more than 1,000 Kwacha while day schools are supposed to charge between 250 and 500 Kwacha.
And some day schools in Eastern Province have been overwhelmed by the high number of pupils looking for school places after their parents failed to raise the high user fees for boarding schools were they qualified.
Some parents told Breeze News that they are unable to raise the user fees which boarding schools are asking for, a situation which has forced them to look for school places in day schools.
This however, results in congestion as some day schools end up having more than 80 pupils in one class.
Meanwhile the provincial selection for grade tens will be held on Tuesday next week.
Provincial Education Officer, Allan Lingambe has confirmed stating that Minister of General Education, John Phiri will then issue a statement on the final selection and results on Wednesday.
