Vandalism of beacons is costing Vubwi District Council huge sums of money

Vandalism of beacons on surveyed land in Vubwi district has worried the local authority in the area.
Council Secretary John Kamanga has told Breeze News that the council has so far spent 66,000 Kwacha on replacing and putting new beacons on surveyed land.
Mr. Kamanga described the situation as unfortunate but indicated that this was partly because people who have been given plots are not developing them.
He says that out of over 500 plots that have been surveyed, only about 30 people have come forward to be shown their plots after paying.
Mr. Kamanga says that this is surprising because the council was being accused of dragging its feet to facilitate surveying of the plots.
He has advised people who were given plots to quickly take ownership of their land before farmers in the area move in to start their farming activities.
