Villagers of Chief Zumwanda in Lundazi district faced with serious challenge of safe drinking water.

Villagers of Mitondo area in Chief Zumwanda in Lundazi district are drinking water from same sources with domestic animals.

This came to light when a team from Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace visited the area.

District Coordinator, Francis Banda says that people travel long distance to access safe drinking water, despite the commission having drilled one borehole in the area because it is not enough.

He told Breeze News in Lundazi that the area also has a serious challenge of schools as pupils have to walk 30 kilometres to get to the nearest school, Chitala.

And Mr. Banda has appealed to government to ensure that the area is considered for a health facility from the 600 health posts that will be constructed throughout the country.

Mr. Banda charged that people of Mitondo only become important during elections because of their vote and are abandoned immediately after the polls are over.

Mitondo is located about 65 kilometres west of Lundazi district on the Kazembe-Lundazi road.
