Water crisis hits Chief Phikamalaza’s area in Lundazi district

A serious water shortage has hit Kamupalo village and surrounding areas in Chief Phikamalaza’s area of Lundazi district.
Kamupalo village Headman Landson Kanyinji complained in an interview with Breeze News in Lundazi that the area is in a serious water crisis, which has also affected domestic animals.
The traditional leader stated that the only water well in the area dried up in June, following the poor rains recorded in the area.
Mr. Kanyinji named other villages hit with water shortage as Mdidi, Chapwahamila and Chivundu.
He revealed that people in the area are now walking long distances of more than 5 kilometres to access water at Lusuntha Secondary School.
And Mr. Kanyinji also disclosed that livestock farmers take their animals to Membe Dam, which is more than 10 kilometres away, a situation described as unfortunate.
The traditional leader has appealed to government to consider drilling a borehole in the area.
