Water problem hits 20 villages in Lundazi district

Over 20 villages in Chief Mwasemphangwe’s area of Lundazi district have been hit with shortage of water.
Speaking on behalf of other villagers, Deliya Mtonga from Kampheta village told Breeze News that the only borehole in the area at Munkwanyo Health Post has dried up.
She says that people from Kampheta and other surrounding villages are now drawing dirty water from shallow wells in the Dumbos.
Ms. M’tonga explained that although the Veterinary Department has started building a deep tank in the area, the works have stalled.
She says some villagers are walking a distance of about 10 to 15 kilometres to fetch water at Chanfitsi School where they are charged 20 Kwacha per 20 litre container.
Ms. M’tonga has appealed to government to assist the area with boreholes so that people can have access to safe drinking water.
