Works of constructing a palace for Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people have stalled.
Headman Lupoko, Richard Nkhata explained to Breeze News that the works, which started in July this year are still at foundation level as the contractor, Jonda Construction Company has stopped working for close to two months.
And Headman Maulao, Joseph Jere says that the works are supposed to be completed in January next year and the community did their ground works through a committee that was formed.
He explained that the contractor complained of not being paid for the works.
And Provincial Buildings Engineer, Wilson Chifwima says he is not aware that the contractor has stopped working because notification has not reached his office.
Mr. Chifwima says it is unfortunate that the contractor has breached the contract by stopping work without notifying his office adding that punitive measures might be taken on the contractor.
He blamed the contractor for requesting for funds late adding that the process for payment has reached an advanced stage and the contractor will be paid soon.
