The Zambia Bureau of Standards ZABS has inspected 301 local products in the second quarter of 2016.
This is in a bid to promote the quality of products produced locally and to safeguard public health and safety.
ZABS head of marketing and Public Relations Hazel Zulu has confirmed this in a statement availed to Breeze News this morning.
Mrs Zulu says that the inspections were also conducted to promote the use of standards amongst the manufacturing sector in Zambia and to support the buy Zambian campaign.
She says that in the first quarter of 2016, the Bureau conducted 306 inspections bringing the total number of inspections in the first half of the year 2016 to 607.
103 inspections were conducted in Lusaka province, 62 on the Copperbelt province and 37 inspections were conducted in Western province.
The products inspected include, food items, cement and cement products, beverages, animal feeds and electric cables.
Mrs Zulu says that other products include chemicals and engineering products.
Fifty-two per cent of the inspections conducted were surveillance inspections to ensure continued compliance of products.
