Zambia Bureau of Standards threatens to close companies operating without permits.

Local manufactures operating without a permit to supply products risk having their companies closed.
Zambia Bureau of Standards, ZABS Head of Marketing and Public Relations, Hazel Zulu told Breeze News in a press statement that this is in an effort to ensure that only safe and reliable products are made reliable to the consumers.
Mrs. Zulu says according to section 12 of the standard act number 416 of the laws of Zambia, only manufactures with authorisation from the Bureau are allowed to supply products to which compulsory standards apply.
She says supplying products without a permit from the Bureau is a violation of the standard act and the manufacture may have their products confiscated or have their premises closed if they do not comply.
Mrs. Zulu says the exercise of inspecting products and educating manufactures has already started in Lusaka and will spread to other parts of the country including Eastern Province this year because the region has a good number of manufactures.
Mrs. Zulu urged consumers to always look for expiry dates on products adding that this is an indication that the supplier of the products is genuine.
