Zambia Railways Limited ZRL has obtained an extended two years license to continue operating the Chipata-Mchinji Railway line in Malawi and Mozambique.
ZRL General Manager, Moses Situmo confirmed the development stating that the company had applied for renewal of license after it expired this year.
Mr. Situmo says that the freight cargo and passenger services license has been extended to 2017.
He says that the operating license was given to the company by officers from Malawi who visited Chipata yesterday in the morning.
Meanwhile Mr. Situmo says that the company lost about 20,000 tonnes when the railway line was affected by floods in Mozambique last year.
