Zambia Railways Limited to increase cargo on Chipata-Mchinji Railway line

Zambia Railways Limited will this year increase cargo being transported on Chipata-Mchinji Railway line to 137 thousand tonnes from last year’s 100,000 tones.
And Nacara Corridor Director, Yubya Mwanamwina, said the rail line managed to transport 100,000 tonnes of cargo to the Nacara port last year.
Mr. Mwanawina added that the Chipata-Mchinji rail line will increase the transportation of cargo to 3 million tonnes per year by 2018.
He was speaking this morning during a meeting on the way forward of the operations of the Chipata-M’chinji rail line.
And Controller of rail transport services in Malawi, Geoffrey Magwede says the Malawian government has approved the extension of operation permits for the Nacara corridor from one year to two years.
Meanwhile, Nacara Corridor General Manager Moses Supumo has assured the Malawi and Mozambican governments that Chipata M’chinji railway line will increase its wagons to 71 from the current 46.
Mr. Supumo thanked the two governments for partnering with the Zambian government in seeing to it that the railway line is operational.
