Zambians staying in the border area with Mozambique in Vubwi district are reported to be facing a serious challenge in finding land for farming.
United Party for National Development, UPND Provincial Deputy Publicity Secretary, Victor Mbuzi alleges the villagers in Chief Pembamoyo’s area have been denied farming land on the Mozambican side.
Mr. Mbuzi says that this is despite government having agreed with Chief Pembamoyo to facilitate the process.
He told Breeze News that government should intervene in the matter because villagers in the area depend on farming to sustain themselves.
But Vubwi District Commissioner, Verinus Moyo says the statement from the UPND is untrue because Mozambican Chief Zinguze has given land to the Zambian people to cultivate.
She told Breeze News that she personally visited Chief Pembamoyo to discuss the issue and was informed that the traditional leader is not aware of any land dispute.
