ZCTU unhappy with anomalies in salaries

Most teachers who have upgraded their qualifications in Chipata have not started receiving their new salaries since January this year.

Zambia Congress of Trade Union, ZCTU District Secretary, Ronald Mbuzi told Breeze News in a press statement that his office has received numerous complaints from teachers who are degree and diploma holders but their salaries have not been upgraded.

Mr. Mbuzi says the issue of upgrading of teachers’ salaries has taken too long and must be addressed immediately because it is demotivating teachers who spent a lot of money to upgrade their qualifications.

He has appealed to officers at the Provincial Education Office to investigate reports suggesting that officers at Chipata District PMEC, Payroll Management and Establishment Control are being selective when upgrading teachers’ salaries.

Mr. Mbuzi has also urged officers at the Provincial Education Office to be communicating with teachers on most issues than keeping quiet.

The ZCTU District Secretary has however congratulated Provincial Education Officer, Dr. Allan Lingambe for addressing the issue of non-payment of rural and remote allowances for teachers at Katete Boarding school.
