ZESCO power supply not enough for industrial activities in Eastern Province.

Government says that the current power supply in Eastern Province is not adequate for any industrial activities.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Dr. Chileshe Mulenga has noted that in order to enhance the economy of the province, there is need for a stable power supply by ZESCO, the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation.
Dr, Mulenga was speaking when TBEA, a Chinese company working on the ZESCO power line in the province donated 30 thousand Kwacha and various goods to the Magwero School for the Deaf and Blind and the SOS Children’s village in Chipata.
And ZESCO, Regional Manager, Yobe Mukonka explained that the upgrading of the sources of power supply in Eastern Province from 66 Kilo Volt to 330 Kilo Volt will assist in alleviating the low voltages and other power quality challenges.
He says that once the works have been completed, there will be an increase in power capacity supplied to Eastern Province.
The ZESCO Regional Manager added that the upgrading works will also see the preparation of a point linkage for the planned Zambia- Malawi and Zambia Mozambique interconnector project to improve power supply.
