The Zambia National Service ZNS says that it will investigate reports that its officers manning borders are torturing people.
ZNS Commandant, General Nathan Mulenga has told Breeze News that the reports are serious and need to be investigated.
General Mulenga says that it is not the mandate of officers engaged to curb smuggling of maize in border areas to start dehumanising suspects.
He says that ZNS will carry out full investigations into the matter and that any officer involved in the incident will be disciplined.
General Mulenga was responding to a complaint where some ZNS officers are reported to have ordered a female suspect to perform a traditional dance known as “Chinamwali”.
The officers allegedly went further to order the woman to choose among them, whom she wanted to have sex with.
