ZRA denies being hired to fix political opponents

The Zambia Revenue Authority ZRA has denied being used to fix government’s perceived opponents.

ZRA Commissioner General Berlin Msiska says the authority does not target any individual in the collection of revenue and that it is never interfered with.

Speaking during a stakeholders meeting in Chipata on Friday, Mr Msiska says that ZRA does not target anyone as long as they do the right thing in-terms of tax compliance.

He emphasised that people must understand that the laws that ZRA administers are laws that are passed by parliament adding that parliament is a combination of several political parties.

Mr. Msisika was responding to a question on whether ZRA is used to fight political battles and why it was targeting the perceived opposition

And in his opening remarks, Mr. Msiska highlighted a number of issues regarding the operations of the authority and emphasized on tax compliance.
