Government has commenced works on the extension of bus stations and markets in four districts in Eastern Province at a total cost of over 110 million Kwacha.
The facilities are being undertaken in Chipata, Sinda, Katete and Lundazi districts with support from the German government through the German Development Cooperation.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony held in Chipata yesterday, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Garry Nkombo, said works are expected to be completed within 12 months.
Mr. Nkombo mentioned the extension of Kapata bus station, Saturday and Nabvutika markets as the projects which will be implemented in Chipata.
Provincial Minister, Peter Phiri said the modern facilities will not only improve sanitation but will also create a favorable environment for business once complete.
Speaking at the same event, Chipata Central Member of Parliament, Reuben Mtolo Phiri, has urged the public to monitor the progress of the projects in order to guarantee the delivery of quality works.
